Volunteerism
Navodaya New Zealand advances community well-being through volunteer-led initiatives that provide tangible public benefit. We organise blood donation drives and inclusive community programmes designed to support individuals and families experiencing need. Our activities include health awareness initiatives, food assistance and educational support. Community Support
Navodaya New Zealand is a community-driven organisation committed to social welfare and collective progress. During the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, Navodaya stepped forward to support those in need by providing essential food supplies and television sets to isolated and vulnerable families. Recognising the importance of inclusivity, we also organised an online cultural show to support children with disabilities, raising both awareness and funds. These initiatives reflect our ongoing mission
Farewell to the Revolutionary Sun
V.S. Achuthanandan, born in 1923 in Alappuzha, Kerala, was a towering figure in Indian politics and one of the founding members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). Rising from humble beginnings, losing his parents early and working as a tailor. Throughout his political life, VS remained steadfast in his commitment to social justice, land reform, and anti-corruption. As Chief Minister of Kerala from 2006 to 2011, he led major initiatives including the Munnar encroachment evictions and championed causes such as environmental protection and the rights of marginalized communities. Known for his integrity, simplicity, and unwavering stand against corruption, Achuthanandan left a lasting impact on Kerala's political and social fabric. Following his passing, memorial services were held across the globe. In Auckland, the progressive collective Navodaya organized a heartfelt tribute to honour his life and legacy. Community members, activists, and admirers gathered to reflect on VS’s contributions, sharing stories and renewing their commitment to the values he stood for equality, justice, and relentless service to the people. Even in death, his ideals continue to inspire movements beyond Kerala, reminding us that true leadership knows no borders.
